AMAZING GRACE -
News by, for and about Grace Fellowship of El Paso, IL

June 2008

Pastor Dan has arrived!!
After several months of praying, pouring through stacks of resumes, and packing interview sessions into harried holiday festivities, the people of Grace Fellowship have now welcomed their new pastor, Dan Giese into their midst. Giese preached his first official sermon as Grace’s new pastor on Sunday, June 8th.

Dan, Vivian, and their three children, Maria (15), Olivia (10), and Josh (7) come to El Paso from Beavercreek, Ohio, near Dayton, where Giese served as a youth minister.

A native of Illinois, Giese was born in Champaign/Urbana, graduated from high school in DeKalb, and attended Lincoln Christian College where his major was Church and Family Life. For the past 28 years, Giese’s focus has been on youth ministry, but he brings experience in many aspects of ministry to Grace including church administration, family and parenting training, children’s ministry, small group and worship leading.

Dan loves 50’s and 60’s music, old movies, and soccer, a sport he has played, coached and refereed. Dan also loves bicycling with his family, and can occasionally be found editing videos if he can find a quiet moment to do so.

Vivian is originally from the Dominican Republic and has 21 siblings! She is primarily at home with the couple’s three children, but she loves to entertain and is employed as an event coordinator for a local banquet facility.

Pastor Giese is attempting to reach out to everyone at Grace by making a calendar available on which you may sign-up to meet with him. This document can be found on the table in the foyer, or you may call Rose at 527-2920 to make an appointment.

Praise the Lord for this new chapter in the history of Grace Fellowship! May He stand by us and continually guide us as He shows us how to accomplish all He has for us to do in His name.

Calling All Knitters, or Knitter Wannabes
God has given me an idea, but I need help! Since our church is sending money regularly to Kovrov, why don't we make gifts for them that Bill can distribute when he goes? Obviously, we won't make it by this year, but if we start now, we can be ready for next year! My idea is to knit neck scarves for all the ladies. I don't know if that is something men would appreciate or not. It is not hard to do, and I am willing to teach anyone who is interested, no age or gender restricted! (I've already had a couple apt pupils!) If you are interested, see Gladys to get started!

Fun Fund Raising for 2008 VBS

Thank you, Grace Family, for your outstanding support for Vacation Bible School again this year! The Lord is already blessing this amazing outreach! Almost $1000 was raised last week to pay for over 100 kid-friendly Bibles and other VBS expenses! WalMart has also generously donated $50! I am in awe at how God plants an idea and provides for it! I love being on his team and working in his lab! Please continue to pray for ways to get involved during the week of August 4th-8th so you can be a part of this life changing experiment! .......Donna, Lab Director

Prayer Chain
I am continually blessed by you prayer warriors. I've seen so many answers
to prayers that have been posted on this prayer chain that my faith is amplified! That's right...amplified! I want to shout it out!

Praise to our loving, strong, caring, just, and faithful God.

What other praises do you have to lift up to God today? If you want them
posted, send them to me. We can all praise God together!

With Love,

Pam Finck

On May 17, 2008, Delores Ann Krug and Robert Wayne Sutherland said 'I do'. A picture perfect day!! The bride carried her mother's Bible that she carried 50 years ago. Jaime Mool, her niece, was her Matron of Honor with her great niece, Madison Mool as her flower girl. Honorary Best Man was Robert's father, with Steve Petrovitch, his brother-in-law as his Best Man. Cameron Petrovitch, nephew of the groom, was the ring bearer. Both parents walked down the aisle to give the bride away. A week long honeymoon to Wisconsin Dells followed. They are residing in Robert's home of the last 20 years. Delores is spending her days painting, unpacking, cleaning and settling in, while Robert continues his work as owner of Agape Christian Bookstore in Newport News & Portsmouth.

Prayer Requests:
1.) Provision and finances for the continued, much needed project of renovating their bathroom.
2.) Continued direction for ministry for them together as a couple.
3.) For mom & dad's health

Thank you for your prayers and friendship!
Love and Blessings,
The 'New' Mrs. Sutherland

Grace’s Library - A Big Thank You to Carolyn!
Carolyn Fenner has spent many hours working on/in the church library. It looks so nice now and is organized again. Carolyn is Grace's official librarian these days. There is a looseleaf notebook she has created - many hours of computer input - that will help you find a book you may be looking for, or you can just look it over to see what we have. The looseleaf is located to the right of the "Return Library Books Here" book - and has "Library Catalog" written on it's spine.
You can look thru the database that is sorted by author and title OR sorted by title. Carolyn even added the Dewey Decimal System. ... remember that from school?

To check out a book, fill out the card in the book's pocket and place the card in the gray plastic index card box to right of the return library books box. Please place books you return to the return books box and they will be put back on the shelf in their proper place.

Grace has a fine library with many inspirational books. Won't you take a look at our spiffied up library and see what books would be of interest to you? Thank Carolyn for all her work when you see her.

Mystery Dinner
Reminder to those who purchased tickets for Grace's Mystery Dinner. The meal is this Saturday, June 14th. See you there!

Dear Friends:
PATH stands for Providing Access To Help and we are a non-profit agency in Bloomington. To the best of our ability, we try to help everyone who gives us a call or shows up at our door. Through caring volunteers, we are able to do what we do. Without them we would not be able to run our 24/7 hotline that takes close to 60,000 calls a year.
Our agency is currently seeking new caring and compassionate adult volunteers (18 or older). NO, experience is required. Volunteering on our hotline offers a rewarding experience and a great opportunity to give back to our community. To become a volunteer everyone must complete our 8-week training program that teaches them everything they need to know--including communication techniques and community resources--before they even pick-up the phone. Training is held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday nights.
A volunteer is never alone; there is always a staff member on-call if assistance is needed.
Our training begins June 12, 2008 and anyone interested needs to contact Mike or Nancy at 309-827-4005 the day before.
PATH also speaks on a variety of community issues including homelessness, aging issues, and community resources as way to provide assistance to others, through community awareness. If you are interested in seeking a speaker, you can always call us.
If you have any concerns or questions about our volunteer or speaking opportunities, please contact me at 834-0585. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Mike Silanskis

VBS Help Needed!

Lab Crew Leaders are responsible for taking their small group of children to
each station. During snack time, you will have the opportunity to do an
experiment with them and lead them in a discussion about the lessons they
are learning each night. Very little preparation is needed, but it is a
time commitment of three hours every night from August 4th to August 8th.
One night of training on July 24th is also required. We need 15 to 20
volunteers.

Lab Assistants are kids from entering 5th to 8th grade. They are
responsible for assisting the Crew Leader in various ways. One training
session on August 2nd is also required. We need 15 to 20 volunteers.

I would also like to establish a prayer room again this year. If you would
like to commit to coming in and spending time covering VBS with prayer, we
would all really appreciate it! I personally believe this is the most
important part of our outreach. I will have a prayer journal with specific
prayer requests to help you get started. 1 or 2 each night.

Please let Donna Haas know as soon as possible if you are interested in
helping out in any of these areas! Thank you so much!

Donna
